Barbara Loftus

Visitor Center Manager, Undergraduate Admissions

I am seeking your support in my election to the Rutgers University Senate representing the staff in New Brunswick. I am currently a Rutgers University Senator as the graduate student representative for the School of Management and Labor Relations. My term as Student Senator expires in May as I graduate with my masters’ degree. I would like to be re-elected to the Senate to represent New Brunswick staff and to continue working on the Budget and Finance Committee where we are working on an analysis of All Funds budgeting. I work in Undergraduate Admissions as the Manager of the new Visitor Center. I am responsible for the operations of the facility and managing events held there. I serve on the ACE-NET committee for Rutgers and will assume the Coordinator position for that group in September. I also sit on the Board of the Central NJ Convention and Visitor Bureau.

Heather McKay

Director, Sloan Center on Innovative Training and Workforce Development, Center for Women and Work, School of Management and Labor Relations

My work at the Center for Women and Work involves research and technical assistance to governments and programs for adult education so that they can better utilize technology in their workforce development systems. I am a URA-AFT member and a part-time doctoral student in the Global Affairs program in Newark. As a member of the University Senate, I will work hard to represent staff members and union members to the university president and administration. I will ensure to be present at meetings and at those meetings will act as an accurate and well heard representative to my constituents. As a committee member I bring strong research and writing skills and will be an effective leader on issues facing university staff. I have extensive experience in university government at prior institutions including Bryn Mawr College.

I am proud to have worked at Rutgers for 30 years during which time I have worked in various offices with varied job responsibilities, and received an Undergraduate and a Graduate degree from Rutgers in social work. Currently I serve as the second vice president for Rutgers University College New Brunswick Alumni Association, and as an Executive Board member of the Union of Rutgers Administrators. Serving in these bodies provides an understanding of the needs of staff and insight into the operations of the University. Serving on the Senate allows not only an opportunity to promote the services we as staff provide but also to work on policies that affects all of us. I ask for your support in allowing me to represent you on the University Senate. Thank you

Associate Director, Admissions

I would like to continue to serve in the University Senate for the following reasons:
  1. I am a Rutgers alum so I learned that the most important aspect of my graduate education was the exceptional faculty and the world renowned reputation of Rutgers-University.
  2. I am a life-long New Jersey resident. I love New Jersey and I would never live anywhere else. Rutgers is part of the reason and it should be part of everyone's. It saddens me when Jerseyans do not give Rutgers the respect it deserves.
  3. I am an employee of Rutgers. I can see many areas where improvements in efficiency, customer service, student life, and work environments would make my work at drawing new students to Rutgers much easier.
  4. I served in the University Senate for four years. I am a veteran of navigating the committee structure, negotiating with faculty and students to craft proposals and recommendations, and learning what issues most concern the staff.
