Questions and Answers About Raises and Reviews

Raises
What raise is scheduled to come July 1, 2010?
As a result of December’s deferral agreement, the raise scheduled for July 1, 2010 is the raise based on last year’s SCP (i.e., the appraisal from Spring 2009). See UHR memo for more information.

How much is the raise?
The raise is awarded in two parts.
1. Across-the-board (2.5%): Eligible administrative employees will receive an across-the-board salary increase of 2.5 percent, effective July 1, 2010. In addition, salary scales for our unit will be increased by 2.5 percent.
2. Merit (1 to 7%): In addition to the across-the board increase, a salary pool of 2.5 percent of the salary base of eligible employees will be awarded for merit-based increases. Employees who are rated as “meet standards” shall receive a merit increase to their base salary ranging from 1 to 7 percent. See chart on URA contract page.

What if I am at the top of my salary range?
You will still receive the across-the-board raise as a permanent increase, as salary grades will increase proportionally. Merit pay will be awarded as a one-time bonus.

Reviews
Is eligibility and the merit award based on the SCP evaluation currently in progress?
No, the July 1, 2010 raise is based on the 2009 SCP evaluation. The evaluation currently in progress will be the basis for the raises to be awarded June 15, 2011.

When is my last chance to add comments on this year’s SCP?
According to the URA-AFT contract, Article 38 Salary Improvements, Section B, letter c (online at http://www.uraaft.org/contract/38SalaryImprovements.shtml): Supervisors will notify employees of their performance evaluation ratings by May 15 of each year and will provide employees an opportunity to comment in writing by June 1. Comments shall be attached to the appraisal.

What if I don’t like my review?
A SCP can be appealed only if: 1. It is factually inaccurate; 2. the SCP process has not been followed, or; 3. you were not evaluated by the performance standards of your job. See the appeal description at section E at http://www.ura-aft.org/contract/38SalaryImprovements.shtml.
